Massive Fire Damages Kingsessing Storefronts, Apartments

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A fast-moving, early-morning fire destroys several businesses along a busy road in Philadelphia's Kingsessing neighborhood.

Heavy flames broke out around midnight and ripped through a row of storefronts on the 6000 block of Woodland Avenue.

The fire spread to five storefronts as well as some attached apartments.

By 6 a.m., a total of 66 firefighters who rode in on 19 fire trucks had been working for six hours to keep the stubborn fire at bay.

Crews are still on the scene. There are no reports of any injuries.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley is at the scene with more.

As far as traffic in the area is concerned, Woodland Ave remains closed between 64th and 62nd streets. Your alternate route is Elmwood Avenue.

There could be issues for SEPTA this morning, as well, because the fire scene is right along a trolley line.
