Jesse Jackson Jr.'s resignation was the talk all throughout the city Wednesday.
Calls poured in to the Cliff Kelley Radio Show on 1690 AM, who dedicated nearly two hours to the subject.
It was also the talk in the district Jackson represented, at diners like Tom's in Calumet City.
"I just think that's a brave thing to do, the right thing to do," says resident Rebecca Furlong. "When he's better, he can take up his place again and represent."
Others say this wasn't much of a surprise.
"We'll I didn't think he was going to stay in office anyway," says William Ware who lives in the 2nd District. "It just didn't seem right, he seemed to sick to even do the job or too stressed, or too worried."
"I'm glad that he stepped down and I just think that he should just let somebody else up come and play that can do better for Illinois, because he wasn't doing his job the way it should be done," says another constituent, Danielle Murdaugh.
Some aren't sure why Jackson would choose Wednesday to resign, a day before the holiday. Others believe he chose the eve of Thanksgiving so it won't be reported as much.
Most people hope to move forward with someone who is present in office for their constituents.
"Anything will be better than nothing, which is what we've had for the last 6 months," says Cynthia Gibson. "No representation at all. I hope anything will be better than that."
