Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Saturday a new $5.5 million grant program for New York City businesses impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

Bloomberg says banks have pledged another $5 million to an already $10 million emergency loan fund. The grant program is designed to complement the loans.

"Getting New York City small businesses back on their feet is key to helping our economy recover from Sandy," said Mayor Bloomberg. "The capital provided through this program will help businesses purchase supplies, make repairs, and get back up and running."

Businesses that have been displaced for at least three weeks can apply for a grant of up to $10,000 to help with repairs, supplies and other expenses caused by the storm.

The money comes from the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and the Partnership for New York City, which is a business group.

All businesses in need of assistance due to Hurricane Sandy should contact NYC Business Solutions by filling out a Contact an Account Manager form at www.nyc.gov/nycbusiness, calling 311 and asking for "NYC Business Solutions" or visiting one of the City's Restoration Centers.
