Lance Briggs has missed just 4 games during his 10 year career- he credits a glass of apple juice every morning. "Straight apple juice...orchard style."
We all had a laugh, but Briggs is blessed. To be in the league that long, at line backer and not miss significant time is impressive and frankly- lucky. He did say he doesn't believe he'll miss Sunday- despite sitting out one practice this week. 55 was back on the practice field today and told us he's getting better every day- "Modern Medicine"- according to him...but not Viagra. Briggs could not keep a straight face reacting to Marshall's comment about the bedroom performance enhancer being used on the football field. And clarified...Briggs feels pretty confident in himself without that--on the field and off it. He was literally bent over with laughter.
Obviously good medicine.
The Bears do need him. Briggs at 31 is the teams second oldest player, and leading tackler. He is needed when for the fifth straight week they face one of the league's top ten running backs Marshawn Lynch.
"He's tough to take down," according to Rod Marinelli. True for everyone. Lynch is the leagues 3rd leading rusher, averaging over 100yds per game. The Bears have had some success against him, but not against his team. Seattle has won 2 straight regular season games at Soldier Field. There are not many teams in the league that can boast that kind of success on the lake front.
"They beat us bad last year," Urlacher recalled, "but this is a different team." Last December the Bears blew a lead late. So the biggest difference is that this season, they finish games. That wasn't happening a year ago.
The defense is a big reason- defying their age without Viagra.
INJURY REPORT: Matt Forte practiced a second straight day and expects to be on the field Sunday. Good news for the Bears trying to get the running game going early. Charles Tillman practiced today too and is improving. Along with Kellen Davis, and Chris Spencer who were limited.
Devin Hester is still a long way from returning but is making progress.
So Eric Weems will be the Bears return man on Sunday. Special Teams Co-ordinator Dave Toub said Weems is hard to keep settled down on Sundays, but he's looking for improvement from him with Hester on the sidelines.
Heading into his third season, Chicago Bears nose tackle Stephen Paea is ready to compete for the starting spot. But handling his family's off-season acquisition – triplets! – may be a bigger challenge.
