GLENDALE, Ariz. -
Firefighters in Glendale rescued a maintenance worker who fell into a sewer Thursday morning.
The man plunged about 30 feet this morning into the waste at an apartment complex near 75th and Glendale Avenues.
Firefighters say he was cleaning the screen on the sewer hole when he fell in.
As he started to climb out, he was overcome by the fumes and fell back in.
He was nearly all the way out by the time rescuers got there. He didn't suffer any serious injuries.
Authorities say the man was wearing improper gear for the job.
