Final days of veto session to set stage for January

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Gov. Pat Quinn says he doesn't expect a deal to expand gambling in Illinois before lawmakers address a pension overhaul.

Quinn has vetoed plans to add five new casinos but recently he's said a compromise can be reached on the issue. The Chicago Democrat said yesterday that no gambling legislation should be addressed before one on pensions.

Lawmakers gather this week for veto session.

One issue expected to come up is a decision on closing some prisons and juvenile centers.

Lawmakers had budgeted $57 for some centers, but Quinn moved forward to close facilities. The Senate voted last week to override Quinn's, saying it'll save jobs. The measure now goes to the House, where an override vote could occur this week.

Quinn says he expects his veto to survive.
