TEMPE, Ariz. -

A 19-year-old ASU student has been missing since Friday night, and police officers, friends, and family members are desperately searching for him.

Jack Culolias was last seen 11 p.m. Friday at Cadillac Ranch at Tempe Marketplace. The freshman was at the restaurant with busloads of other fraternity and sorority members.

He was in the process of pledging a frat at ASU, and was there for a fraternity function. Now, ASU is looking into allegations of fraternity hazing.

"It's tough knowing your friend is out there and you don't know where he is," said friend Steven Bray, a follow pledge.

Witnesses say he was drunk and got kicked out of the bar, leaving his wallet and cell phone behind. He may have been using a fake ID.

"Most of us didn't see him get kicked out of the venue, if we had we probably would've gone with him," said Bray.

Officers have searched his dorm, parking lots and hospitals.

Police say they had a difficult time getting some truthful statements from fraternity members -- about hell week and hazing -- and Culolias' mother told officers he had some concerns about pledge week.

Culolias' mother found his shoe about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, behind Tempe Marketplace, down an embankment next to Tempe Town Lake.

"She described the shoe and said it was very particular to what he had," said Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley. "Said that was his shoe. That has not been confirmed to us, but we are looking at it to make sure we can either rule it out or find it as a good lead."

The shoe is being tested for DNA.

Police have bought search dogs in, but no dive teams at this point. Police say the area is one known to them as commonplace for drownings.

Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the search was called off due to the darkness. It resumed Wednesday morning.

ASU has a no tolerance policy for hazing.
