Abrazo Health Care launches "Celebration Meals" program for new parents

PHOENIX -

We've seen celebrity moms like Beyonce pay thousands of dollars to deliver their baby in style.  Even if you don't have that kind of cash, you can still get pampered when the baby arrives.

Caring for a new baby is stressful enough, without your partner asking "Honey, what's for dinner?" That's why Abrazo Health Care is treating new parents to an intimate dinner for two, completely free of charge.

"You know, just give them a little bit of time alone with a nice dinner before they go home and can't have a nice dinner," said Food Services Director Jean Revard.

While mom and dad relax with baby, the Paradise Valley Food Service staff roll up their sleeves in the kitchen downstairs.

One of the unique things about the program is the menu.  People get to pick exactly what they want for their special meal, so they get an option of a chicken breast stuffed with cranberry dressing or rib eye steak with baked potatoes and rice and grilled vegetables or steamed broccoli.

What's special about the preparation of the steak is that it's made fresh.  They don't make it until they order it.

The couple we visited enjoyed their sizzling steaks with a side of steamed broccoli and herb seasoned rice.

"Then we just top it off with some fresh chopped parsley -- give it a little bit of color," said Operations Manager Juan Caranza.

You can see the beautiful steak and a lot of kind of nice touches as well on the tray.

"We definitely wanted to go with the more classy look -- a more romantic look to it.  It is a celebration after all, an addition to their family, so you know ,we go with the linen table cloths and napkins -- the nice goblets, we have the little sparkling cider here for them and the flowers..we can't forget that fresh flowers.  We want to make it special for them," said Caranza.

To add an extra touch of romance, the chef adds two delicate swans, carved from apples. Down the hall and up the elevator we go, where Juan personally delivers the celebration meal to mom and dad's door.

Parents Matthew and Madyson have been so busy caring for their new twins, Jaden and Kaelyn, they say they haven't even eaten since yesterday.

The Celebration Meal gives mom and dad a break from the constant stream of visitors, and reminds them that even if you are new parents, you can still be love birds.

Two other hospitals offer the celebration meals: Phoenix Baptist and Maryvale.
