Sheriff's deputies are investigating what led up to a deadly shooting Tuesday in Laveen. It happened at the Southern Meadows Trailer Park near 40th Avenue and Southern.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is only confirming the bare minimum -- that they are investigating a homicide at Southern Meadows. But we were able to gather basics from those who live here.
Residents of the park say 61-year-old Don, the owner of the park, shot someone Tuesday morning. Rudy says he was outside when he heard a gunshot.
"I saw the owner of the trailer park with a gun saying, get down get down to two females, I didn't know he had shot someone in the car," said Rudy.
"It was another guy he had shot I guess," said resident Glynn Williams.
Glynn Williams and other residents of Southern Meadows Trailer park we spoke to say this shooting doesn't surprise them.
They say Southern Meadows is not a peaceful quiet place to live and today's violence is pretty normal.
"Well you got the pick of the community in here, they take on anybody to live here. You don't have to have good credit so they flock in here," said Rudy.
"I'm on the verge of moving. It's just too ignorant around here," said Glynn.
The victim, identified as 51-year-old Daniel Morales, died from his injuries. It's possible this may be a case of self-defense -- but we won't know until the facts come out.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's office said they believe that an altercation was involved and have detained Don. It's not known what, if anything, he'll be charged with.
The investigation is ongoing.
