A pair of pigs are bringing joy and support to a woman in Bucks County, but local officials say her potbellied friends must go.
Cindy Davis spends much of her time with her two pet pigs, Sofia and B-Pipp. They have become her lifeline - prescribed by her doctors as therapy animals.
"They help me get out of bed everyday, help me get out of bed, as long as the pigs are with me I feel like I can do it," Davis said.
Davis says before she got the pigs, she was afraid to leave the house.
She says her mother committed suicide many years ago. Two years ago, tragedy struck again when her son committed suicide.
Six months later, her best friend died in a house fire. Davis says two months after that, her brother committed suicide.
Davis has other pets, but she says the pigs understand her illness and help her cope.
"Sofia, the bigger one got me out of bed, she brings me the leash, she knows when I get upset and she'll push me over and make me sit down, they make me live a normal life again."
But now, she's facing heartache once again. She says a neighbor's complaint led to a court battle over her precious pets, with a local judge ruling she isn't allowed to have farm animals in her home.
She's already paid hundreds of dollars in fines and appealed her case several times.
She says her doctor even testified on her behalf.
Davis says she's not sure what to do next, but she wants to fight because she can't imagine not having Sofia and B-Pipp by her side.
FOX 29 was unable to reach the judge and the animal control officers involved in her case for comment.
Davis says her next step is to try for another appeal.
