Arizona in top 10 biggest gas price decreases

PHOENIX -

Arizona is getting a break at the pump. After dropping 9 cents over the past week, the state has earned a spot on AAA's top 10 biggest price declines in the country.

The statewide average is $3.21 per gallon, while national prices fell 8 cents to $3.30 per gallon.

FOX 10 found a gas station advertising $2.99/gallon gas Thursday night. It's the QuikTrip located at 22nd St and Thomas in Phoenix.

"Arizona's average has fallen well below the nation's and is within a nickel of the statewide average a year ago," said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. "With continued lackluster demand, supplies have become plentiful and we anticipate seeing prices continue their downward trend."

Tucson has the state's lowest gas prices at $2.99 and Flagstaff has the highest at $3.15.

Nationally, Missouri has the lowest average $3.01 per gallon and New York has the highest with $3.78.

Economists say lower gas prices may be leading people to spend more at the stores this holiday season.
