Drunk man terrorizes bed and breakfast

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A peaceful night at an upstate bed and breakfast ended up becoming a nightmare for guests because of a trespasser.

Police say a drunk man broke into an upstate bed and breakfast, prank called guests, and caused smoke alarms to sound.

The New York State Police say it happened early Saturday morning.

Troopers say that Jason Bennett, 38, was intoxicated when he was left on the roadside by his driver.  He walked to the unnamed bed and breakfast.  Police say he got into the main building.  Once inside, they say he started telephoning guest rooms from the main switchboard.

Police say the Greenfield man then lit a smokey fire in the fireplace that set off smoke alarms.  Guests raced from their rooms due to the alarms.

The state police responded and arrested Bennett.  He faces criminal trespass charges.  Bennett was due back in court on Dec. 20.
