A fire that broke out in the Frankford section of
Philadelphia Sunday, shutting down Amtrak service to and from New York
City, and suspending Septa service on the Trenton line. All transit lines have
since been cleared.
But neighbors in the area by Aramingo Avenue and Wakeling
Avenue were also derailed, unable to leave their homes due to fire trucks and
hoses that arrived to fight the blaze around 6:30am.
One man told us he was supposed to help his sister move
today. "I'm stuck on the street. Can't go nowhere. I hope I can get out soon,"
Tom Sariego told Fox 29. Ernest Warrington has plans to go shopping but
could not move his truck.
The four alarm fire broke out in a vacant three story
building at about 6:30am this morning, spreading to a neighboring used car
dealership and two homes. According to officials there have been no
reports of injuries. The fire marshal, Captain Michael Richey spoke this
morning explaining that five people were evacuated from the adjoining property,
"one female, three male and one child. Currently red cross is working with
them."
When I got up this truck here and they were laying the first
hoses down, I was going to go shopping, but I aint been able to move since.
Neighbors describe being awoken by the sounds of fire trucks
rushing to where the blaze started. "The flames were pouring
out of the windows and everything," Edmund Modestowics told Fox 29.
"They [firefighters] got it under control in a few hours,
gotta give the guys credit, they did their job," Warrington said.
Officials say the building was owned by Arco sales company,
an industrial machine shop. The fire marshal is still investigating the
cause.
