Subway R service returning on Friday

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - The MTA says R subway service between lower Manhattan and Brooklyn is expected to return on Friday.

The service would come two months after Sandy flooded a tunnel that runs under the East River and connects Brooklyn Heights and the Financial District.

Two other sections, damaged in the storm, are still inoperable.

According to the Wall Street Journal, officials said the A line between Howard Beach and the Rockaway Peninsula will remain out of service until spring.

And the South Ferry station, heavily flooded during the storm, needs major work and may not reopen for at least a year.
