PATH service has resumed at the Hoboken station for the first time since Superstorm Sandy. Service between Hoboken and the 33rd Street station in Manhattan began at 5 a.m., officials said.

Trains initially will run daily in both directions until 10 p.m.

The Port Authority of NY & NJ recommends Hoboken PATH customers headed for the World Trade Center Station transfer at the Christopher St. Station for the train to the Grove St. Station. At Grove St., travelers can connect with the Newark-bound train to the World Trade Center Station.

With this latest service restoration following Superstorm Sandy, travelers now can access the entire PATH system between New Jersey and New York. The return of Hoboken service provides more than 29,000 commuters with restored mass transit between Hoboken and Midtown Manhattan.

Sandy decimated the entire PATH system, flooding the tunnels with up to eight feet of water, and destroying critical signal and switching systems.

The return of limited 24-hour PATH service is expected by year's end and in time for New Year's Eve, officials said.
