'26 Acts of Kindness' Sparks Good Deeds in Philadelphia Area

Posted: Updated:

From tragedy in Connecticut, a campaign to help others has been sparked, and spreading here in the Philadelphia region. "26 Acts of Kindness," one for each of the 20 children and six adults killed last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, is an idea that has the nation doing good deeds for others.

"In honor of the 26 souls lost last week. I am giving you this gift to make your season brighter. May your family have a blessed Christmas. Ho ho ho! Your Secret Santa," was written in a note left on Trist Fix's doorstep in Leesport, Pa., this past week.

Fix, a mother of three children all under the age of 5, says she was having a bad week until she came home to a bundle of groceries and presents on the front step from an anonymous giver.

"There was a wash basket full of groceries, a cooler with chicken and hot dogs in it, and a big present for my children."

Five-year-old Neven Fix told FOX 29 all about the toy he received, "A plane wrapped in Christmas paper. I would say thank you for that present."

"It really just brings your faith back and it really lets you know that there are really good people out there that do want to help you," Fix said.

Another selfless incident happened in Manayunk Saturday. Jake and his sister Emma Ehrlich found two notes with a few dollars attached while in the toy isle of a dollar tree.

"I am doing 26 acts of kindness you are number twelve please pay it forward. Happy holidays," read the note.

Jerry Ehrlich explained what the notes meant to his children. "Unfortunately because of sadness this came out of it. But hopefully others get the picture that pay it forward. Do something."

Jake and Emma are spreading the message and have already donated the money plus more to the Salvation Army.

"Be thankful for everything that we have and to give others," Emma said.

Fix agrees, saying "I just want to let them know that I plan on doing the same thing and carrying on and helping other people out.

There is a"26 Acts of Kindness" Facebook page where others are spreading the positive message.
