Driver charged in school bus crash that injured 14

VERNON, Conn. (AP) - A Vernon school bus driver has turned herself into police on a warrant related to an accident in April that injured 14 students.

Stacey Beaudry is charged with 29 counts of risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment, making a false statement and reckless driving. She surrendered on Sunday

Police say the bus, which was headed to a middle school, clipped a utility pole and went off the road into trees and brush. Twenty-nine students were on board and 14 were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Police say the 34-year-old Beaudry initially denied she used her cell phone, took medications or consumed alcohol the day of the crash. According to police, she later said she took prescription medication before the accident.

Beaudry was released on $50,000 bail. She did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
