Rain moved in Saturday afternoon and the chance for it will stick around through the seven day forecast.
It becomes very unsettled across our area with clounds and showers again Sunday. The best chance for rain is in the morning and afternoon thunderstorms are possible towards our south.
Sunday is cool but we do warm up well into the 80s by Tuesday. With the warm weather comes a better chance for thunderstorms.
Accumulation Expected On Snowy Saturday In PhillyMore>>
Winter began about a week ago, and now we are getting real winter weather in here.
We escaped last storm because we got rain around the Philadelphia area, but tomorrow it looks a little different.
This is all part of a storm system down to the southwest of us that will continue to move towards our area. This energy is coming from the Gulf of Mexico, and once it gets more potent and hits the cold temperatures, it will be certainly be an accumulating snow situation.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for a good portion of our area, including Philadelphia and all of the surrounding counties.
On Saturday morning, we are expecting accumulating snow in all of the advisory areas and then a mix with some rain down toward the Jersey Shore and southern Delaware.
How much snow? Expect 2 to 4 inches in Philadelphia, from right along the Interstate 95 corridor and up to the north and west. Then we'll see 1 to 3 inches to the south and east of us, and a coating to an inch is possible down at the shore points.
The snow starts in the morning, perhaps as early as 6 a.m., and it goes probably until the evening hours on and off. Our high temperature Saturday will be 35 degrees.
We'll get to 36 on Sunday, then a high of 37 Monday and stay right there for New Year's Day. So it will be very cold for the Mummers Parade but it should be dry. There could be a flurry or two. It doesn't look like a big deal, but don't be surprised.
By Wednesday – back-to-reality day -- we're at 35 degrees and sunny, and that cold weather stays with us Thursday, with a high of 36.
