ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -- Doug Bukantis has been living on 13 Mile Road for eight years now. Other than speed demons racing down the Roseville street, something else has been annoyingly consistent.
"The county truck comes through and then just blasts the snow at a high rate of speed and my mailbox goes flying."
Bukantis normally notices that his mailbox has been beat up after that fact.
"This time I was right in front of it and I couldn't believe it happened right there," he said. "I saw him coming and... I knew it was going to happen. I had a feeling."
"They didn't hit it, but they shouldn't come down the street that fast at a high rate of speed knocking people's mailboxes over. It's over a hundred dollars of damage easy," he added. "I'm really sick and tired of it because they don't want to fix it or reimburse me for the fees."
This time Bukantis' webcam came in handy to capture the mailbox bashing, the postal plow.
"I sent Macomb County the link, too, and they responded with four or five emails saying they're not responsible," he said. "I don't think that's fair."
Well, the director of Macomb County Roads told Fox 2 the exact same thing, saying he feels bad about this, hates that it even took place, but the county is not liable. When they remove snow from the streets, sometimes, unfortunately, mailboxes take a beating. They warn residents about this fact when the wintry weather draws near. The only time they'll shell out any money is if their motorists makes a misstep. Other than that, they will not budge. So, in other words, too bad.
So, what did Bukantis do after snow truck guy whizzed by?
"Then they drove back by and I said, 'Hey!' he explained. "He had a cell phone on, the window down and didn't even look over."
Well, you better believe Bukantis is looking out for him.
