Schumer: Sandy bill must pass before Jan. 3

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Senator Charles Schumer is calling on the Congress to pass the $60 million recovery package for victims of Hurricane Sandy as soon as possible.

Schumer says repairing damaged homes and businesses is critical to getting areas like Staten Island, Long Beach and the Rockaways back and running.

House Republicans are pushing for a smaller relief package but Schumer says the bill will pass, if put to a vote.

The senator says the bill must pass before the House before the new Congress is sworn in on January 3.

If the bill isn't passed before January 3, the entire process has to start over.
