Dog Shot By Police After Attacking Teen

Posted: Updated:

Atlantic City Police shot and killed a pit bull this afternoon after it attacked a teen and came at officers.

Police were dispatched to the 500 block of North Connecticut Avenue around 3:30p.m. Saturday on a report of a pit bull chasing juveniles in the area. An additional call stated that a 15 year old was being attacked and were advised the teen also had a gun. Upon arrival the dog was not around but the teen had torn clothing and had sustained injuries from dog bites.

Police put the teen in a patrol car as he was fearful of the dog returning. As one of the officers was placing the teen in the car, the dog was observed near by. The dog charged toward officers, which led to police discharging at the dog.

The dog appeared to be wounded but continued toward the two officers on-scene. Police fired until the animal stopped.

The teen was arrested for possession of a handgun and later charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for treatment of the injuries.
