Philadelphia Police are looking for the driver who struck
and killed a Wynnefield Heights man early New Year's morning.
Police identified Patrick Coyle, 50 as the victim. They
say he was hit by a silver sedan as he tried to cross City Avenue and
Presidential Boulevard around 2:45am.
The driver was last seen driving onto the eastbound ramp
of I-76 near City Avenue.
"To drive off
like that your are a coward" said Steve Krystopa, Coyles cousin.
Family members say Coyle was walking home from a family
party in Roxborough when he tried to cross the street. He was being remembered
as a family man who always had a smile on his face.
"He was always there to make you laugh. He wanted to
make sure you were happy and made sure everybody was ok" said niece
Samantha Coyle.
Coyle who grew up
in Roxborough with this 7 siblings had a wife and 4 children.
"He loved his
kids. That's all he ever talked about
and bragged about was his kids and how much he loved his kids and how he
wanted them to do good in life" Krystopa said.
There are several
no crossing signs posted at the intersection along with a pedestrian crosswalk
over City Ave. Regardless police believe someone out there knows the driver or
saw something Tuesday morning.
"We're
speechless I don't understand how somebody can just hit somebody and drive
away. I mean he was right outside his apartment building it's not just like he
was wandering" said Samantha Coyle.
The hit and run
happened right outside the Presidential City Apartments where Coyle lived and
worked in building maintenance.
Investigators are urging anyone who knows the driver or saw something
early New Years morning to contact Philadelphia Police.
