Gas Leak Prompts High-Rise Evacuation, Power Outage

PHILADELPHIA -

An apartment building that has been evacuated over a gas leak has streets closed and power out in the heart of Center City.

An apartment building has been evacuated because of a gas leak.

This is happened around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning at 15th and Sansom streets, when there were reports of smoke or fumes coming from the basement of an 11-story high-rise.

Power has since been shut off in the area as fire officials try to find the exact cause.

Sansom Street is closed at 15th Street. Your alternate route is Walnut Street. Also closed is 15th Street between Chestnut and Walnut streets. Use Broad Street instead. And 16th Street is blocked from Locust Street to Sansom.
