After a series of horrific shootings, like those in Connecticut and Colorado, gun control is a highly debated topic around the U.S.

Gun sales are booming. It's not uncommon to go into a store in Arizona and find low inventory of both guns and ammo.

One gun store owner said he can't keep the shelves stocked.

"the supply chain has crashed. Typically December and January are the busiest firearms sales months, so we already have a busy December, now threaten a gun ban from Washington..they've got the threat of the gun ban right now. Everyone comes in, buys the guns, buys the ammo. We have just increased the number of people who have firearms substantially," said Dale Roddy, owner of Desert Valley Firearms.

Just this week, the FBI released new numbers on background checks; they hit a record high last month. There is also an increased number of people joining the National Rifle Association.
The NRA estimates membership is increasing by 8,000 members per day since the Connecticut school shooting.

So, it's not surprising that many people will spend Saturday and the next few weekends at gun shows in Arizona.

Starting Saturday morning, the crossroads of the West Gun Show opened in Tucson at the Pima County Fairgrounds.

Next weekend, it comes to the valley at Centennial Hall in Mesa and then moves to the Arizona State Fairgrounds.

There are a lot of people in Arizona who will attend these shows and buy more guns.

But, some people aren't thrilled with the idea of having large scale gun shows at all.

FOX 10's Kristen Keogh talks to Hildy Saizow, President of Arizonans for Gun Safety, about her stance on the issue.
