NHL Expected To Use 48-Game Schedule

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

FOX 29's Howard Eskin reports that, according to league sources, the National Hockey League's lockout-shortened season will be 48 games long.

And it looks like the Flyers will begin play in less than two weeks on Jan. 19, Eskin tweeted.

The end of the lockout means big hockey dollars will be flowing once again to the many bars, clubs and sporting goods stores that count on the Flyers to make a living of their own.

Kenny Brownell, the manager of South Philly Bar and Grill, says business hasn't been the same.

He's eager to get Flyers fans back.

"We have 20, 30 people that come out just to watch games, for every hockey game," Brownell said.

The racks at Modell's Sporting Goods are once again filled with Flyers merchandise.

It may be a shorter season, but business owners and fans say they'll take what they can get, FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reported Sunday night.
