Police responding to reports of someone possibly injured at a home in Gary, Ind. early Wednesday found Gregory Cole dead at his home about 5 a.m.
Cole, 20, had been stabbed several times at his home in the 2000 block of Tennessee Street and was pronounced dead about 6:15 a.m.
His live-in girlfriend, who is the mother of his son, was arrested later Wednesday and is expected to be charged sometime Thursday.
Takesha Sanders, 23, was being held at Gary City Jail while police investigate the circumstances of Cole's death.
He is the first homicide victim of the year in Gary, and the second in Lake County, Ind. Both appear to be the result of domestic violence. A Chicago woman, Erica Veldinia, 33, was beaten to death Jan. 1 at a condominium in Munster. Police say her estranged husband killed her.
Child welfare workers took custody of Sanders' two young sons.
Police went to another address in the 2000 block of West 12th Avenue and recovered what they believe is the knife used to kill the victim.
