Public museums in Illinois will receive $15 million in state capital investments to improve facilities and develop new exhibits, in addition to creating more than 370 jobs, Governor Pat Quinn announced in a release Thursday.
The money will be split in different amounts between 49 museums throughout the state. Twenty-three are located in Cook County and will receive more than $10 million of the money collectively.
The largest single amount allotted for any one institution is $750,000, which will be received by the Field Museum, Chicago Botanic Garden, Chicago Historical Society, The Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, The Museum of Contemporary Art, The National Hellenic Museum, The National Public Housing Museum and the Shedd Aquarium.
The investments are in line with Quinn's "Illinois Jobs Now!" program and will allow museum visitors "to learn about Illinois' history and cultural diversity in unique, interactive ways," Quinn said in the release.
