MTA: Subway work will disrupt 14 lines through weekend

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The MTA announced that 14 subway lines will be disrupted due to scheduled maintenance work beginning Friday evening through early Monday morning.

Until Monday morning the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, A, C, F, G, J, M, Q and S trains will be undergoing scheduled maintenance, making it a tough weekend to navigate the underground.

"We just got re-routed to a couple of different lines."

Rahul Agarwal who was traveling with his 1-year-old son Arjun Saturday night said despite the signs and the warnings construction was happening, it's still not easy getting around.

"Definitely confusing, it would be better if there was some kind of signage but you know, at the end of the day, as long as we end up going in the right direction eventually you'll going to make it home," said Agarwal.

Concentrating the work in a short amount of time, the MTA says, saves money -- an average of 10 to 15 million dollars in repair costs. This maintenance has been scheduled for weeks now and its work that occurs all year long.

Something mom, Jada Lewis, knows all too well.

"It's crazy because especially if you work it's a pain – it's a pain and they're increasing the fare but it's been like that for a year," said Lewis.

Driving around, at least out of Brooklyn, won't be much faster. This weekend, officials shut down the Brooklyn Bridge going into the city until 6:00 a.m. Monday for repair work.

Attorney for the Straphangers campaign says commuters best bet is a simple one.

"Bring a book, bring a newspaper, bring a bible and cross your fingers and hope you're not too badly affected," said Gene Russianoff.
