A missing elderly couple from Tempe has been found safe.
Authorities say John, 89, and Marie Stegmeier, 90, were supposed to head down to Tucson to visit their daughter, but the daughter didn't know they were going to visit her.
Investigators say the couple called family members on Saturday and left a voicemail saying they were in Tucson.
The family was able to confirm the couple stayed at a Tucson hotel Friday night, but had heard from them since. They were worried because Mrs. Stegmeier suffers from dementia.
Authorities say officers from the Tempe Police Department made continual checks of the Stegmeier's residence and the Tempe area.
Tucson Police Sgt. Marie Hawke says, "Thankfully, Mr. and Mrs. Stegmeier were located and returned home. Many thanks go out to the outpouring of concern for this couple as well as for all of the efforts that were put forth to locate them."
