CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A 28-year-old man died after he was found shot inside a van near the Eisenhower Expressway on the West Side, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. at a gas station in the 5200 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the Austin neighborhood, authorities said.
The man then drove himself to the 600 block of South Kostner Avenue, which is near an expressway onramp and where authorities found him, police said.
Illinois State Police said the shooting did not occur on the expressway and that Chicago Police are handling the investigation.
Paramedics took the wounded person to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced at 5:03 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. The man's name was being withheld as authorities notify his family.
The two far right eastbound lanes on the expressway were closed between Keeler and Kostner as investigators collected details, State Police said.
