Old City Philadelphia -

"Puts a black eye on it"

That's what people in Old City said after they saw a video obtained first by FOX 29 that shows a brawl that erupted on 2nd Street in Old City early Sunday morning just after 2 a.m.

The violent melee involved several people and quickly brought police officers to the scene after a gun shot was fired.

"That's not good, I'm kind of glad I wasn't around, said one man who works nearby.

"I don't know what started this whole thing, what precipitated it, but none the less we're not gonna tolerate it," said Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Ross.

As the crowd pounded on a white car, police moved to break up the big fight and arrest 28-year-old Christopher Mcrae of Camden, after he fought with police and a gun fell from his waist. Police used a taser to try and subdue him but he still tried to get away before he was arrested.

"Very scary for the officers involved, for the people out there just minding their business," Ross said. "When you get that kind of crowd out there, anything can result from it.

"It's horrible for the city because people get the wrong perception, said Lolly Galvin. She saw the video taped  brawl on the Internet. It disturbed her. She runs a local women's boutique on 2nd Street.

"I really think the whole gun violence just needs to stop altogether, guns, just not good for Philly," she told FOX 29.

People who live and work in the area say this kind of violence is hurting Old city and they want more police.

"I think that they're doing a good job, we could always use more of a presence. That can't be a bad thing," Galvin added.

"You better believe we'll ramp it up even more in the coming weeks, just so the message gets out," Deputy Ross said.

The gun was recovered. Mcrae is facing reckless endangerment, weapons and resisting arrest charges. He was still behind bars Monday afternoon.
