PHILADELPHIA -
Pennsylvania has now recorded 40 flu-related deaths this season, with 18 of those occurring just last week.
That's according to a weekly update from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, which also says the number of flu cases continues to rise. There were 5,069 flu cases reported during the second week of 2013, up from 4,256 cases the prior week. However, hospitalizations due to flu have decreased.
A majority of reported deaths are among persons who are age 65 or older. No flu-related death has been reported this season in Pennsylvania in a person under the age of 18.
Meanwhile, the state of Delaware is reporting its first flu death this season. Health officials say a 2-month-old girl from New Castle County died from the virus.
The federal government recommends everyone older than six months of age get a flu shot.
But despite a nationwide flu epidemic, many children across the country aren't getting flu shots. According to a study published in the journal "Pediatrics," fewer than 45 percent of kids under age 5 get a flu shot.
One out of every six kids who went to the emergency room during flu season had the virus.
As the flu epidemic grows, more flu shot clinics are being added to the calendar in Camden County, New Jersey.
If you still have not received a flu shot you can get one today at the Cherry Hill Municipal Building. That's located at 820 Mercer Street. Shots are being given out from 9 a.m. to noon.
And in Camden, shots will be given Thursday at Camden City Hall also from 9 a.m. to noon. City hall is on Market Street.
On Friday the Gloucester Township Municipal Building will be administering shots from 9 a.m. to noon. The municipal building is located at 1261 Chews Landing Road in Blackwood.
Many other places around the region are providing flu shots. You can find a location near you by heading to MyFOXPhilly.com and scrolling down to the "Seen on TV Section," or click right here.
