Obama To Unveil Gun Control Proposals, NRA Counters With Ad

President Barack Obama is ready to announce his plan to crack down on gun violence in the wake of the Newtown massacre.
An announcement is planned for 11:45 a.m. to unveil what we understand will be a three-part plan focusing on gun violence, education and mental health.
Gun rights supporters are planning for the worst.
Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are expected to propose universal background checks and urge Congress to pass a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition clips holding more than 10 bullets.
The proposals follow last month's deadly school shooting in Connecticut.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Tuesday, "They will be joined by children from around the country who wrote the president letters in the wake of that tragedy expressing their concerns about gun violence and school safety, along with their parents,"
The decision to include children in the white house event has enraged the president's critics.
An ad released by the National Rifle Association says, "Are the president's kids more important than yours?"
The NRA's web ad also calls the president a "hypocrite."
"Then why is he skeptical about putting armed guards in schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school?" the ad asks.
The president and vice-president's efforts are also likely to include more than a dozen executive orders, which would allow the president to circumvent Congress, bypassing opposition from gun rights supporters.
"There are some steps that we can take that don't require legislation and that are within my authority as president," Obama said during a news conference Monday.
Meanwhile, Republican Congressman Steve Stockman of Texas is threatening to try to impeach the president if he feels the Second Amendment is violated.
"We're going to use every tool possible to fight an administration which wants to abrogate the Constitution," Stockman said.
