Tense moments near a Detroit Public High School Wednesday afternoon when a shooting happened across the street from Pershing High School.  Police say an innocent bystander, a 17-year-old female student, was shot in the leg.  Investigators tell Fox 2 the student suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police were at the scene collecting shell casings and other evidence. But according to a police source close to the investigation, the incident started as a beef between two groups of students who were arguing at school.  Officials also say three people, who are not students at Pershing High School, came up to the school to finish the fight.  That's when shots were fired.  Police reiterate the 17-year-old was an innocent bystander and not part of the fight.

Investigators tell Fox 2, three people were arrested near the school.  One is a 16-year-old and the other two are 17-year-olds. They are all being detained by police.

Police continue to investigate the incident but were able to recover the gun.  Officials say despite the shooting, school will be opened Thursday.
