Hope for a deal on teacher evaluations?

The United Federation of Teachers says discussions are continuing with City officials over a teacher evaluation system that would need to be implemented in order for millions in grants to be awarded to NYC.

Lisa Fleischer, Wall Street Journal Education Reporter; and Susan Keyock, a special education teacher in the Bronx weighed in on the evaluations.

The city stands to lose $450 million.

Each of the state's nearly 700 school districts was told to submit a plan for how to evaluate teachers by Jan. 17.

"We'll have to wait and see if a deal can be reached today," said Fleischer.

"I am also hopeful there will be a deal tonight. Teachers have shown that they want a fair and meaningful teacher evaluation system.  The feedback that we're given can really make a difference in student learning," said Keyock.
