WASHINGTON -

Thousands of National Guard members are arriving in D.C. to help provide support to law enforcement and the D.C. National Guard for the inauguration.

6,000 National Guard soldiers and airmen will hit the streets of Washington, D.C. over the weekend. Many will help with crowd and traffic control on Monday along the parade route.

The National Guard members will also help out if needed for security reasons. The Metropolitan Police Department swore in the officers as they arrived at the D.C. Armory. The soldiers and airmen will have temporary arrest powers in the District.

Six schools will be opened up to provide many of those members visiting a warm place to sleep. Military cooks are expected to prepare 18,000 meals a day.
