Website explains New York gun law

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The Cuomo administration has launched a website to answer questions about the state's new gun control measure signed into law this week.

The website (http://www.nysafeact.com) helps navigate through the complex law. A phone information line is scheduled to start Monday.

The website will list the weapons that must be registered -- officials say for free -- under the law starting April 15.

Designated assault weapons must be registered within a year after that or owners face a misdemeanor charge.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo was criticized for negotiating the provisions in private, then not releasing the details until just before legislators voted.

Cuomo issued an order to suspend the three days' public review required of bill under the constitution.
