Video Shows Wild Shooting In Philly Parking LotMore>>
A Wild West-style shoot ‘em up just off a busy street on a Saturday night? No big deal to folks in Philadelphia's Spring Garden neighborhood.
FOX 29 has obtained security camera video of a gun battle that played out in the parking lot between a gas station and car wash just off 11th and Spring Garden St. just before 9pm Saturday.
Police say the sale of a dirt bike went sour, leading to an exchange of gunshots between two groups of men.
Three muzzle flashes could be seen on the nighttime video, but by daylight Monday, more than a dozen chalk outlines- marking where shell casings fell- could be counted on the parking lot and sidewalk nearby.
The reaction from folks who live nearby?
A collective yawn.
"I mean, it's a fairly safe neighborhood," Vincent Frolich told our Bruce Gordon. "Kind of a good, working-class area, and every so often, a bad egg or two gets in, but it's not awful."
Gordon asked Colleen Duncan if the gunfire made her nervous.
"Uh, no," Duncan replied. "It's Philadelphia, so something happens everywhere you are. Doesn't matter what neighborhood. Just, some more often than others."
T.J. Carricato put the Spring Garden violence in context:
"I've lived here for, like, six months," said Carricato, "but I used to live in North Philly, up by Temple, so it's nicer than living up there."
