Police Search For Suspects In Series Of Robberies In Wilmington Shopping District

Posted: Updated:

Police in Wilmington are working to find the suspects who are accused of attacking and robbing people near a busy shopping district.

Police say on three occasions the suspects have attacked shoppers in Trolley Square, considered by many to be one of the safest neighborhoods in the city.

"Their M.O. is the same," Cpl. Mark Ivey of the Wilmington Police Department told FOX 29's Claudia Gomez. "They're using a dark-colored, minivan-type vehicle to arrive on the block, jump out quickly, rob the victims and then flee."

On Saturday night, police they the suspects targeted a 68-year-old woman.

"The female runs and actually yells for help but the two suspects actually chase her down and end up striking her and taking some of her property," Ivey said.

On Friday, another incident took place just a half block away from a popular restaurant at 7 p.m.

Some area residents tell FOX 29 they are shocked to hear of the incidents.

"It scares me," Jill Taylor, who works in Wilmington, said. "It scares me knowing that our business is just down the street, it's where I work."
