It has been a struggle to reopen St. Francis de Sales school in Belle Harbor, Queens to reopen following superstorm Sandy.
The school offered the upper portions of its buildings as shelter for displaced residents in the area.
On Tuesday, the school reopened after weeks of repairs to the lower levels.
Good Day NY spoke with Monsignor John Brown about the ordeal.
"Luckily the Diocese of Brooklyn tries its best to take care of its parishes. Our people, many still don't have the heat and lighting they need, we've been lucky to have what we have. Now it's our turn to continue to help the community," said Msgr. Brown.

A new photo exhibit at an art gallery in Chelsea is drawing the ire of residents who are the artist's subjects, unknowingly. The artist, Arne Svenson, is reportedly taking the photos through their TriBeCa building windows. In some photos, the residents are bending over, sleeping and cleaning.
