Warning To Parents: Popular Drug 'Molly' Hits Local Party Scene

Posted: Updated:

A dangerous drug commonly known by the name "Molly" is making its way into the local party scene.

Molly is short for Molecule and is sold under the premise that it's the purest form of ecstasy, or pure MDMA -- which police say gives younger people the impression that it's not a dirty drug.

Molly is made from several drugs, police say, but the most common in our area is based with a methamphetamine.

A search on the Internet for Molly results in endless online conversations and YouTube videos of teens and 20-somethings who appear to have taken the drug.

The drug even received a shout out from Madonna at a recent concert.

A college senior, who wished to remain unidentified, described the drug to FOX 29 as a powder that you can stick on your gums or put in your water bottle. The student admits that is how they took the drug.

Local police tell FOX 29 the drug can cause brain damage and can lead to organ failure.

Police say there are no rules to govern the process in which its made, meaning it could be made in someone's basement, a car or even a storage locker.

You can watch the story in the video above.
