2 dead, 3 hurt in Long Island car crash

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Two people are dead and three are critically injured after a car crashed trees on Long Island Sunday morning.

Authorities say the car apparently ran off the road while speeding on the westbound lane on the Southern State Parkway around 5:45 a.m. before crashing into a trees near Exit 23.

Police say that Kervens Boutin, 30, of Hempstead, was behind the wheel of the Nissan Maxima.

Two passengers, identified as Bryan Rivas, 20, and Blossom Castro, 22, both of Hempstead died in the crash.

Boutin and another passenger, Marlo Cabrera, 19, of the Bronx, were transported to Nassau University Medical Center with critical injuries.

An additional passenger, Antonio Rivas, 22, of Hempstead, was transported to Winthrop Hospital, also with critical injuries.

The accident caused the westbound lanes on the Southern State Parkway near North Merrick to close. The fatal crash happened on a stretch of the parkway named "Blood Alley" because of the many deadly car accidents there.
