FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities are cautioning skiers and others in the back country of the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff to be on the alert for potential avalanches.
The Coconino County Sheriff's Office says there's been significant new snow on top of the existing snow base and winds expected to kick up Tuesday could increase the danger of avalanches.
The office said that no avalanche control is conducted outside of the Arizona Snowbowl ski area.
Out-of-bounds skiers and others using the back country are advised to carry avalanche rescue gear such as a beacon, probe, shovel and winter survival gear.
