NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly graces the cover of the NY Post on Monday after speaking to the national media over the weekend about the need to get handguns off the streets of NYC.
Kelly is favor of proposed gun control legislation in Congress which could include a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and a universal background check for firearms purchases.
"The vast majority of shootings occur with handguns, concealable handguns, traditionally they've been the cause of 65 percent of the murders in NYC. Handguns are the issue. The background check can make some inroads in getting them off the street," Kelly told GDNY.
