The Royal Oak City Commission plans to vote Monday night on a proposed human-rights ordinance that would prohibit discrimination on actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, height, weight, condition of family pregnancy, marital status, mental limitation, source of income, family responsibilities, sexual orientation, gender identity or HIV status.
Under the proposed ordinance, the city's police department would be responsible for the investigation of complaints.
A violation of the ordinance may include a fine up to $500.
The vote could happen during Monday night's meeting at Royal Oak City Hall, 211 Williams St. The session starts at 7:30pm.
A discussion is expected before the vote occurs.
