NM man gets 8-year prison term in firearms case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Albuquerque man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for possessing a stolen firearm and ammunition.

Prosecutors say 61-year-old Charles Brown also was sentenced Tuesday to three years of supervised release after serving his prison term.

Brown was been in federal custody since October 2011 after he was indicted on two counts of the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition in Bernalillo County. He pleaded guilty to the charges last August.

Authorities say Brown was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition because he previously had been convicted of numerous felony offenses in New Mexico from 1972 to 1996. The offenses include robbery, burglary, larceny, receiving stolen property, receiving a stolen vehicle and heroin trafficking.

They say Brown also was convicted of endangerment in southern Arizona in 2003.
