Police have arrested a man in the murders of his girlfriend and her daughter in Englewood, N.J.

Michael C. Brady, 34, of Teaneck, is accused of killing Tam Marie "Tammy" Pitts-Gaddy, 40, and Natasia Gaddy, 5, in their home earlier this week. Their bodies were found in their apartment Tuesday, authorities said.

Brady, who had been living on and off in the apartment for the last three years, got into an argument with Pitts-Gaddy and stabbed her to death, according to Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli. Her daughter, Natasia, who is not Brady's biological child, apparently witnessed the stabbing, so he then suffocated her by holding a plastic bag over her head, the prosecutor said.

Authorities charged Brady, a custodian at the Leonia Middle School in Leonia, N.J., with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree hindering apprehension.

He is being held at the Bergen County Jail with bail set at $2 million. He is set to go before a judge on Thursday.
