In celebration of annual Groundhog Day, the Howell Conference and Nature Center will host a costume contest and groundhog prediction followed by a pancake breakfast.
The event will begin at 7:45 a.m. with the annual costume contest. At 8:15 a.m. Michigan's official groundhog, Woody will make her weather forecast prediction. The prediction is free and open to the public. At 9 a.m., Woody will make her way over to the pancake breakfast. Admission to the pancake breakfast is $8 for adults, $6 for children and free for kids 2 and under.
The children's crazy outfit contest includes prizes for first place through fifth. First place will receive one free week of summer day camp, second prize is three days of summer day camp. The third place winner will receive a $25 gift certificate for any product or service offered by the Howell Conference and Nature Center. Fourth and fifth place winners earn a commemorative woody t-shirt and all participants receive a free commemorative woody button.
Other activities available at the Howell Nature Center include day camp, overnight camp, archery, pond study, dance, zip line, Native American studies, fire and shelter building, canoeing, a climbing wall, campfires and other outdoor attractions. The Nature Center acts as a wildlife rehabilitation clinic that is dedicated to the care and release of injured and orphaned wild animals, including a 5K run/walk in September.
The Howell Conference and Nature Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
