Pair arrested for stealing home heating oil

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Suffolk County Police arrested two people Saturday night for stealing home heating oil from storage tanks on the property of eight vacant homes on Long Island. 

Officers say 46-year-old Frank Dawson and 44-year-old Towania McCrae were caught pumping home heating oil from the underground tank of an unoccupied home on Hampton Avenue in Mastic and transferred the oil to three storage tanks that they were carrying in the rear of Dawson's pickup truck around 10:15 p.m. 

Authorities said after both suspects were arrested, Dawson took the officers to seven other locations in Mastic where he had stolen home heating oil. 

Dawson of Medford, was arrested and charged with petit larceny, criminal trespass, and  possession of burglar's tools.  

McCrae of Mastic, was arrested and charged with petit larceny and possession of burglar's tools.

The pair is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on April, 3, 2013.  Police say the investigation is continuing.
