Larry Nevers dies at age 72; convicted in 1992 Malice Green beating death

DETROIT (WJBK) -- Former Detroit police officer Larry Nevers has died at age 72.

The Macomb County medical examiner's office says Nevers died Sunday at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.

No details about the cause were immediately available.

Nevers and fellow officer Walter Budzyn were convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Malice Green outside a Detroit drug house. They were later convicted of involuntary manslaughter after the first convictions were overturned.

Nevers was released from prison in 2001. The case made headlines because the officers were white and Green was black.
